First day at Canyonlands - Monticello to Moab

This morning we left the trailer at Roughlock RV Park and drove into the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. After turning off the main road, we traveled 35 miles just to get to the visitor's center.

Poppa let me take the pictures today. This is a sign describing "Newspaper Rock":

Here's Newspaper Rock:

Poppa held me up in the air and turned around in a circle so I could make this movie of the scenery we drove through on the way to Needles:

(There is supposed to be a movie here, but Poppa is still calling YouTube nasty names. Maybe they'll make up tomorrow and post the movie.)

There is just TOO much scenery to send pictures to you. Poppa says it's like listening to a symphony with your eyes - you can enjoy it completely, but you can't describe it to someone else.

This is a Utah Juniper. If you look closely, you'll see lots of little Juniper berries. Poppa says that's what makes gin smell bad (whatever that is.)

After Needles, we drove 46 miles to Moab, Utah. We'll stay here 2 nights and explore the "Isles in the Sky" section of Canyonlands tomorrow.

BTW, Poppa has a hero in Florida, so he modified his keychain to emulate him:
