Pecos Pueblo and The Pink Pueblo

Today we took a road trip to Pecos National Historical Park. More than 550 years ago, the pueblo there was a "well planned frontier fortress five stories high with a population of 2,000." Today the only remains of the pueblo are underground. In 1451, the Spanish passed through. In 1598, they came back to build a church and "civilize" the Indians. In 1680, the Indians burned the church down. In 1692, the Spanish came back and rebuilt the church. This what it looks like today:

Finally Poppa was able to take me to a church that was open.

Nana met Bob and Sara from North Canton, Ohio:

She made Poppa her apprentice. Now Nana knows Sara's life history and Poppa knows Bob's. We have invited them to visit us when we get back to Pittsburgh.

Nana was at church with me too:

Here is one more picture of the church:

Nana's cousin, Maryellen, has a daughter, Emily, who went to college in Santa Fe. She gave Nana 5 things to do here. We did Madrid, Taos, and Canyon Road before today. We were told that the Ore House closed (although maybe it only moved). Today we went to The Pink Adobe for a great lunch:

Nana says "Thanks,Emily!"
