Santa Fe, New Mexico to Pagosa Springs, Colorado

After seeing Pecos Pueblo yesterday, we saw an ad for a show on TV Thursday night at 7 on PBS about Chaco Canyon. It's even bigger than Pecos Pueblo, but it doesn't open for two more weeks. We'll drive past it tomorrow and try to watch the show in the evening. (Time may be different where you are.)

I got good news today! Ali (on the left) and her friend Alex are taking good care of my buddy Siggie back in Pittsburgh. You can see that he's in good hands:

We drove 159 miles today from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

WOW!!!

I thought The High Road to Taos last Sunday was scenic. This drive was WONDERFUL! The further we got from Santa Fe, the better it got (sorry about that, Santa Fe - we still like you.) It really started to get great around Abiquiu, where Georgia O'Keefe did a lot of painting(whoever she was), and when we passed Ghost Ranch it became stunning. We would have stopped to see dinosaur bones, but we'll see some later in our trip.) From there to Pagosa it seemed that every time we went around a bend, the type of scenery changed. If it gets better than this on another drive, I don't know if I can stand it.

We crossed the continental divide - any rain that falls to the right goes to the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean. Any rain that falls to the left goes to the Gulf of Baja or the Pacific Ocean.

Pagosa Springs is a very interesting area with hot springs. We're staying beside the San Juan River. When Autumn and Brenna's mommy was in high school, she saw where the San Juan River flows into the Colorado River in Lake Powell. We took a drive to see Treasure Falls. Nana and I saw them from the parking lot:

Poppa walked up to the base of the falls for a picture, got wet in the spray, and retreated a little way down to get this picture:

Nana says she wants to move here, but Poppa says she'll say that a lot on this trip.
