Jenner to Westport - Still trying to get caught up

(Monday morning at Jenner)

While Poppa was having coffee this morning, we saw a flight of 34 pelicans (including 4 little ones), cruising up the coast. They were just riding the air currents coming off the ocean and rising up the cliffs. We watched them for 10 minutes and none of them had to flap their wings!!

You remember pelicans, don't you? One of them saved Nemo from the sea gulls.

"A wonderful bird is the pelican.
Its beak can hold more than its belly can!"

We drove 98 miles on the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) today. It's beautiful!. Several people suggested that we change our itinerary so we could drive north to south and have a better view of the coast. Nana and I were happy to drive south to north - we can see lots of scenery and still be in the inside lane on curves. We made Poppa keep both hands on the wheel. He called us 'sissies'.

Once we saw a car coming toward us with a "Driver Training" sign on the top. Poppa wondered which would be scarier - being the student or the teacher.

We got to the KOA campground at Westport. They say they are 'rustic' - above 'primitive' but below 'spiffy'. There are actually privacy hedges between some of the campsites. Here is our site:

And this campground has its own beach!! We walked to the beach:

I tried my King Canute imitation and got my feet (and other parts) wet:

This was a really neat conglomerate rock:
